Europe tightens technology law enforcement, new tensions with US tech giants
Europe is entering a new confrontation phase with major US tech giants as the European Commission shifts its focus from legislation to the vigorous enforcement of regulations. Starting from 2026, the Digital Markets Act (DMA) and the Digital Services Act (DSA) will be more strictly implemented, aiming to force “gatekeeper” platforms to open their ecosystems, increase transparency, and be accountable for content.
This move occurs amid tense transatlantic relations, as the US government warns of potential trade retaliation if US tech companies continue to face pressure. Although Brussels prioritizes a cautious approach, behind the scenes, several major investigations are ongoing against Google, Meta, Apple, and X, making the conflict increasingly apparent.
Experts believe that loosening enforcement could weaken Europe’s competitiveness, while excessive tightening might ignite political and economic tensions with Washington.
