Vitalik responded to how to improve the evaluation method of encryption technology performance to ensure hardware independence, which can use publicly available hardware.
ChainCatcher news, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin previously suggested that developers in the fields of zk-SNARKs and fully homomorphic encryption adopt more practical performance evaluation metrics and proposed using the “efficiency ratio”, which is the ratio of encrypted computation time to original computation time, instead of the traditional “operations per second” metric. However, some community users have questioned how to ensure hardware independence. In response, Vitalik Buterin stated that publicly available hardware can be used, and the geometric mean of the capital expenditure in dollars per second of operations and joules per operation for both encrypted and original computations would be a reasonable initial pass metric.
