Gate News message, April 15 — Alibaba plans to unveil a four-legged robot through Amap, its mapping and local services unit, entering the consumer robotics market. A spokesperson said Amap is also studying humanoid robots but did not provide a sales timeline for the quadruped.
Alibaba joins players including Unitree, Agibot, and Ant Group in a sector drawing investment despite unclear long-term commercial demand. Unitree’s Go2 quadruped is priced at approximately $1,600. One market report estimates the global quadruped robot market at about $3.45 billion in 2025, forecasting it could reach approximately $11.26 billion by 2032.
Amap established an embodied intelligence business unit in January 2026 and released an embodied navigation foundation model in February. The project ties into Amap’s push for spatial intelligence and a “spatial intelligent internet,” powered by Alibaba’s Qwen foundation models.
