The presidential-directed mission aims to assist merchant vessels seeking unimpeded passage through the critical international trade route. U.S. Central Command chief Admiral Brad Cooper stated that support for this defensive operation is essential for regional security and global economic stability.
Military support for the operation will include missile destroyers, over 100 land-based and sea-based aircraft, multi-domain unmanned platforms, and 15,000 personnel.
