Trump Says He Is 'Still Considering' Adjusting U.S. Military Deployment in Italy on May 9

GateNews
According to Italian media, U.S. President Donald Trump said on May 9 that he is 'still considering' adjusting U.S. military deployment in Italy, stating that 'Italy was not there when we needed it.' Italy's Defense Minister Crosetto responded that he could not understand the remarks, noting that Italy is preparing mine-clearing and escort operations in the Strait of Hormuz with other countries. U.S. Department of Defense data shows that as of end-2025, approximately 12,700 active-duty U.S. military personnel are permanently deployed in Italy, making it the second-largest U.S. military deployment in Europe after Germany.
