The report has not yet been confirmed, but U.S. intelligence officials said China could provide man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS) to Iran, and if that proves true, it would further intensify tensions in the Middle East. On April 13, Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Guo Jiakun responded to the allegations at a press conference, stressing that China has always taken a cautious and responsible approach to arms exports, strictly managing them in accordance with its domestic export control laws and regulations and international obligations, and opposing unfounded slander or malicious association.
