Ethereum's Consensus Layer Gets Major Technical Refresh: Key Developments from Latest Developer Meeting
Ethereum’s consensus layer development is moving at a brisk pace, with the 172nd Core Developers meeting revealing several crucial upgrades on the horizon. The meeting, known as ACDC, centered around multiple protocol improvements set to reshape the network’s performance.
Among the standout announcements was the successful rollout of BPO2, marking another step forward in the network’s evolution. Perhaps even more significant is the expansion of Blob handling capacity—the Blob Target is being increased to 14, while the Blob Limit is set to reach 21. These changes aim to enhance the network’s data availability and scalability.
In parallel, the developers greenlit EIP-8070, also referred to as Sparse Blob Pool, for inclusion in the upcoming Glamsterdam upgrade. This proposal represents another layer of optimization for blob-related operations. Meanwhile, the Hegota proposal process has officially kicked off, with developers setting a February 5 deadline for community feedback and final submissions.
These consensus layer updates underscore Ethereum’s commitment to continuous protocol refinement, balancing scalability improvements with network security and decentralization.
