More and more German female footballers see the English Premier League as a stepping stone for their careers. The glamorous environment and higher wages make the island attractive – but many end up on the bench. For national team coach Wück, this presents an increasing challenge: players who do not train consistently for the national team cannot perform at the top level. The English league has long surpassed the German Frauen-Bundesliga in attractiveness. While the DFB team relies on world-class matches, its stars are increasingly found in subordinate positions in England. Wück must therefore develop a strategy to retain talented players for national development despite English offers. The risk: those who sit on the bench regularly lose match practice and self-confidence – a problem that Wück's team could pay dearly for in international competitions.
