The ongoing tensions in the Middle East continue to cause market concerns over energy shortages. Many Southeast Asian countries are taking emergency measures to reduce energy demand, including Thailand’s government requiring most government agencies to adopt a full work-from-home arrangement.

Danucha Pichayanan, Secretary-General of the National Economic and Social Development Council of Thailand, stated that this measure was approved by the cabinet on Tuesday (the 10th) to reduce energy consumption amid increasing supply risks.

The cabinet also urged government officials to suspend non-essential overseas travel during this period, allowing only participation in necessary international meetings.

As for the Philippines, which relies almost entirely on imports for its oil needs, government departments have also begun a temporary four-day workweek this week to conserve energy amid rising fuel prices caused by tense Middle East tensions.
