Xinhua News Agency, New York, March 9 — The three major U.S. stock indexes rose significantly on the 9th.

At the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased by 239.25 points to 47,740.8, a gain of 0.50%; the S&P 500 index rose by 55.97 points to 6,795.99, a gain of 0.83%; the Nasdaq Composite Index climbed by 308.267 points to 22,695.95, a gain of 1.38%.

In terms of sectors, nine out of eleven sectors in the S&P 500 gained, while two declined. The technology sector and communication services sector led the gains with increases of 1.80% and 1.13%, respectively, while the financial and energy sectors declined by 0.52% and 0.43%.
