Despite an ongoing war in the region, volunteers in Dubai continue to prepare and distribute tens of thousands of iftar meals every day, saying food supplies remain unaffected and their Ramadan mission is continuing without disruption.

One among them is Imran Karim and Mohammed with the initiative Happy Happy UAE, which distributes meals to workers and residents across the emirate. They were initially serving around 35,000 meals daily in the first 10 days of Ramadan. The numbers have now increased to 40,000 meals per day.

“It has been challenging, obviously, and every day has been different,” said Mohammed. “But when we see the people who come to receive the iftar meals, it gives us a lot of confidence and motivation to continue.”

The effort involves hundreds of volunteers who prepare and distribute food packs across multiple locations before sunset each day. For many workers who are away from their families during Ramadan, these meals help them break their fast.

Mohammed said that they import non perishable items like rice and other ingredients required for the large-scale operation were secured well in advance.

“Staples like rice were already arranged earlier, so there has been no issue with that,” said Mohammed.“There were some challenges in sourcing fresh fruits and vegetables when the conflict began, but those issues were quickly sorted out.”

He also said that the food supply for the initiative remains stable.“Absolutely no problem. We are managing the situation very well,” he said.

The brothers also said the initiative has taken on an additional meaning during the current situation.“We realised that we are not just serving food. We are also offering comfort and reassurance to people,” he said.“These are uncertain times, and we want to remind everyone that they are not alone.”

He added that while social media may often paint a worrying picture, the reality on the ground remains calm.“There is a lot of negativity on social media, but when we go out and see things ourselves, it is peaceful and comfortable. For us as residents, there is really not much to worry about.”

He also praised the authorities for maintaining stability.“The government has been doing its best to protect everyone and we feel that sense of security. That also gives us confidence that things will be okay,” he said.

Hameed Yasin, general secretary of the Iman Cultural Centre, which distributes iftar meals on the streets of Deira, said their operations have continued smoothly despite the regional tensions.

“When the conflict first started, we were naturally worried about whether there would be any disruption in getting ingredients,” said Yasin.“But Alhamdulillah, everything has been going well and we have not faced any shortage so far.”

The organisation prepares and distributes meals daily to workers and residents in Deira during Ramadan, with volunteers working from the afternoon to ensure the packs reach people before sunset.

“We are able to source all the ingredients we need without any major difficulty,” he said.“Our volunteers are continuing the work as usual, and the meals are being distributed every day.”
