Just realized a lot of people struggle with updating their SASSA details, especially when it comes to changing banking information. If you're on a permanent grant like old age or disability, you actually have to go in person to your nearest SASSA office - can't do it online unfortunately. You'll need your ID, proof of your new bank account (bank statement under 3 months old), and they'll give you a Payment Method Change Form to fill out. The whole verification process takes up to 21 working days, so if you want the new details to kick in next month, submit before the 15th or you'll have to wait another cycle.
Now if you're getting the SRD R370 relief grant, that's different - the whole system is online to handle the massive volume. You go to the official SASSA SRD portal, enter your ID number, and they'll send you a secure link via SMS. Just follow the prompts to change your banking details. Same rule applies though - account has to be in your name only, no joint accounts or third-party stuff. The verification takes a few days to a couple weeks.
For updating your phone number, permanent grant holders should call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit their local office. SRD users can use the contact details portal on the SASSA website - you'll get an OTP sent to your new number to verify the change. Just be careful about fake websites claiming to help with this stuff. Always use the official SASSA links to protect your information.
