Just realized a lot of people don't know how to properly update their SASSA details, especially with the new SRD grant. If you're getting the R370 relief or permanent grants, you need to know how to change your banking details correctly—messing this up means delayed payments, which nobody wants.

For SRD grants, the whole thing is actually online now, which is way easier than it used to be. You go to the SASSA SRD portal, enter your ID number, and they send you a link via SMS. Click the link, update your bank account info, and that's it. The account has to be in your name though—they won't send money to joint accounts or anyone else's account. Takes a few days to verify, but once it's done, future payments go to the new account.

Now, if you're on permanent grants (old age, disability, child support), it's different. You actually have to go physically to a SASSA office. Bring your original ID, a copy, and proof of your new bank account—either a recent bank statement (stamped, less than three months old) or a letter from your bank. They'll fill out the Payment Method Change Form, and it takes up to 21 working days to process. The deadline thing is important too: submit before the 15th of the month if you want it to take effect next month, otherwise you're waiting another cycle.

Phone number changes? For SRD, use their contact portal—enter your ID, application number, new number, and they'll send an OTP to verify. For permanent grants, just call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit your local office. People keep falling for fake websites claiming to help with this, so stick to the official SASSA channels only. Trust me, it's not worth the risk.
