On April 22, The Wall Street Journal reported that, according to multiple informed sources, U.S. Vice President Vance has temporarily shelved plans to depart for Pakistan to negotiate with Iran after holding a series of intensive meetings at the White House. The report stated that one source indicated that while Vance may still depart for Pakistan later this week, possibly as soon as that evening, President Trump is privately discussing the possibility of completely canceling the trip. The source pointed out that this is due to Iran’s unwillingness to make concessions on the uranium enrichment issue. Another informed source stated that this decision was made because Iran refused to commit to participating in the negotiations.
