CryptoWorld News reports that, according to Benzinga, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has joined XAI’s lawsuit against Colorado. The move aims to stop the state from implementing a law that imposes significant operational requirements on AI product development companies. The lawsuit names Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser and asks the court to block a 2024 bill targeting “high-risk” AI use.

The bill covers areas including housing, education, and employment. It requires developers to take steps to prevent “algorithm-driven discrimination.” The DOJ argues that Colorado’s law violates the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment by forcing AI developers and deployers to consider race, gender, and religion in order to “correct” the disparate impacts that have statistically been observed. Assistant Attorney General Brett Shumate said, “America’s success in the AI race will depend on removing innovation and adoption barriers across all industries.” The bill is scheduled to take effect on June 30, 2026.
