Google releases open-source model Gemma 4
On April 2nd local time, Google announced the launch of its new generation open-source model, Gemma 4, claiming it is its most “intelligent” open-source model to date. It is mainly aimed at application scenarios such as advanced reasoning and agent workflow. Google said that Gemma 4 is built on the same research and technical framework as the “Gemini 3” model, with fewer restrictions on commercial use, making it the open-source model with the strongest capabilities “at the same scale.” This time, Gemma 4 was released in four model sizes to fit different hardware environments, from mobile devices and laptops to development workstations and accelerators. The larger models can support higher levels of offline reasoning on devices such as personal computers, while the smaller models focus more on low-latency, multimodal, and offline-running capabilities on mobile and IoT devices.
