French National Office for the Fight Against Organized Crime: Surge in Cryptocurrency Kidnapping Cases, 88 People Have Been Prosecuted, 75 People Detained
ME News Report, April 25 (UTC+8), the French National Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime (Pnaco) stated that cases involving kidnapping and illegal detention related to cryptocurrencies continue to surge. Among the 12 related cases currently under investigation, 88 people have been charged, including more than 10 minors, and 75 people are in custody awaiting trial. Prosecutor data shows that since 2023, French law enforcement has recorded 135 such cases, with 18 in 2024, rising to 67 in 2025, and 47 so far in 2026. The cases mostly involve violent kidnapping, ransom extortion, and forcing victims to transfer crypto assets. The prosecutor pointed out that some suspects have appeared multiple times in different cases, indicating the existence of a structured criminal network behind them. The earlier kidnapping of Ledger co-founder David Balland is also seen as a significant sign of escalating security risks in France’s crypto industry. (Source: ChainCatcher)
