OpenAI's Sam Altman Apologizes for Failing to Report Terrorist to Police

On April 25, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman apologized to the community of Tumbler Ridge, Canada, for failing to notify the police about a banned account related to Jesse Van Rootselaar. According to the police, Van Rootselaar killed eight people at a school in February this year before taking his own life. OpenAI had previously stated that the company banned Van Rootselaar’s account last year for policy violations, but the issue did not meet the internal standards for reporting to law enforcement. Altman mentioned that he has spoken with the mayor of Tumbler Ridge and the Premier of British Columbia regarding this tragedy, describing the local community’s pain as ‘incomprehensible.’ (Jinshi)
