Ethiopia is leveraging the Grand Renaissance Dam (GERD), the largest in Africa, to boost Bitcoin mining operations. Revenue from Bitcoin mining now constitutes 18% of the Ethiopian Electric Power Company's (EEP) earnings. Over the past year, the country has invested $1 billion in mining infrastructure and partnered with 25 mining companies to attract international miners. These efforts aim to capitalize on Ethiopia's surplus electricity, offered at a low cost of approximately 3.2 cents per kWh.
