According to LayerZero's official blog post, the protocol issued a public apology on Friday for how it handled the April 18 exploit, which caused Kelp DAO to withdraw approximately $292 million worth of rsETH from the bridge. LayerZero admitted to making a mistake by allowing its Decentralized Verification Network to serve as the sole verifier for high-value transactions, a significant concession after initially blaming Kelp DAO's configuration choices. This apology marks a shift in tone from LayerZero's previous statement that the protocol “operates as intended.” Following the incident, many major protocols have moved their cross-chain infrastructure away from LayerZero; Kelp DAO announced its departure earlier this week, and subsequently Solv Protocol transferred over $700 million worth of tokenized Bitcoin to Chainlink's CCIP, citing security concerns.
