A scammer located in Nigeria impersonated Steve Witkoff, co-chair of the Trump-Vance inauguration committee, and defrauded a donor of 250,000 USDT (based on Ethereum) through a forged email address. The U.S. Department of Justice stated that the email address used by the scammer had only slight differences in characters. The FBI tracked down and recovered about $40,000 through blockchain, and Tether assisted in freezing the related funds.
