Trump announced a 100% tariff on Chinese products starting from November 1 and will implement export controls on "all critical software."
"We have just learned that China has taken an extremely aggressive stance on trade issues, issuing a highly hostile letter to the world, claiming that they will implement large-scale export controls on almost all products they produce— including some products not manufactured by them— starting from November 1, 2025. This move will undoubtedly affect all countries, and it is clearly a plan they have been orchestrating for many years. This is absolutely unprecedented in international trade and is a moral disgrace in dealings with other countries."
In light of China's unprecedented stance, I hereby announce on behalf of the United States of America—rather than other countries equally threatened—that starting November 1, 2025 (or sooner, depending on any further actions or changes by China), the United States will impose an additional 100% tariff on top of any tariffs currently paid by China. Similarly, on November 1, we will also implement export controls on all critical software.
It is simply hard to believe that China would take such action, but they really did, and the rest has become history.
