Barclays: Expects the Fed to cut rates by 25 basis points in December, with internal disagreements.
Barclays economists stated in a report that the likelihood of the Fed lowering interest rates by 25 basis points at the meeting on December 9-10 is very high, with the market pricing in a probability of over 80% for a rate cut. They expect Powell to support the rate cut, but there may be strong internal disagreements, with at least two hawkish dissenting votes from Schmid and Moussa. Barclays also noted that the statement and the chairman's press conference will appear somewhat hawkish, suggesting a pause in actions in January unless labor market conditions deteriorate beyond expectations.
