Is the Fed about to be torn apart internally?
Latest news shows that the 12-member interest rate decision-making committee may now face an epic internal divide. What does this mean? Currently, 5 voting members have clearly expressed opposition to or questioned the continuation of interest rate cuts, while another 3 board members wish to cut rates.
Al-Hussein, the fixed income investment manager at Threadneedle, directly warned: if a split vote of 7:5 really occurs, the interest rate market will be thrown into complete chaos. Just think about it, the central bank's policy signals are originally the anchors for market pricing, and now this anchor is starting to shake itself.
Interestingly, analysts from Bank of New York Mellon believe that the direction of monetary policy in 2026 will likely depend on the political economy. In other words, don't just focus on economic data; political maneuvering may be the decisive factor.
