Japan is going to cut the encryption tax from 55% to 20%, but it has to get through the regulatory hurdle.

Abstract generation in progress

[Bitpush] Japan's recent tax reform actions are quite significant. The government has already given the nod, preparing to reduce the tax on the gains from Crypto Assets from the current maximum progressive tax of 55% down to a flat tax of 20%, the same as for stock trading.

The Financial Services Agency plans to present this proposal to Congress for a vote in early 2026. Speaking of which, the Japan Blockchain Association has been quite persistent, lobbying for three consecutive years. Their reasoning is straightforward - the tax burden is so heavy that it suffocates the entire industry.

However, this tax reduction is not given for free. I've heard that the accompanying regulations will be stricter: insider information is not allowed for trading, and information disclosure requirements will also be intensified. It seems they want to learn from traditional finance, loosening the tax burden with one hand while tightening the rules with the other, aiming for both vitality and order.
