This morning I saw that eSports/travel blogger @蓝战非 was kidnapped in South Africa. The kidnapping was prepared for six months and executed in several steps, each one nerve-wracking:
1. Pretending to be a fan, they plotted for six months. First, they bribed airline staff to know exactly when 蓝战非 would travel from Kenya to Cape Town.
2. At the airport, they disguised themselves as fans who "accidentally" met him and wanted to hang out, but were refused. They also arranged three groups of people in advance to pose as taxis, waiting for him to fall into their trap.
3. Although 蓝 took a legitimate taxi to the hotel, the kidnappers still tailed him all the way to the hotel. ( This step was key ). Then they bribed hotel staff to make a room card.
4. In the early morning, they used the room card to enter the room unimpeded, took control while he was asleep, leaving no time to react.
5. They didn't just steal cash—they also forced 蓝 to take out online loans to maximize the amount they could get. They even collected fingerprints, hair, saliva, semen, etc., bribed local corrupt police, and tried to fabricate a rape case to frame him, aiming to psychologically intimidate him and prevent him from reporting to the police.
6. They threatened 蓝战非, saying he had to leave South Africa by 8 a.m. on the day of the robbery, or else he would be killed. This would make police investigation more difficult.
This case serves as an important warning for people in the crypto space, especially high-profile KOLs who travel. Every step in the process is something to pay special attention to.
