Bitcoin ended a week of sideways movement, successfully breaking through the $94,000 mark last night. This sharp rally is analyzed as the result of a combination of major institutional accumulation, short position liquidations, and the US financial regulator (OCC)’s relaxed policy.

According to blockchain media reports, the surge was triggered by large-scale accumulation on major exchanges and by institutions. A leading exchange bought 7,298 BTC, a compliant platform bought 3,412 BTC, Wintermute acquired 2,174 BTC, and BlackRock purchased 1,362 BTC. In addition, a whale address bought an extra 6,192 BTC, further increasing upward market pressure.

In the futures market, there was $300 million in liquidations within 12 hours. Of this, Bitcoin accounted for $46 million, and Ethereum for $49 million. Most of the liquidations were short positions, and this strong short squeeze further fueled the uptrend.

Eased US financial regulation and expectations for the US Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting also contributed to the rally. The OCC issued a policy allowing banks to act as intermediaries in crypto trading without risk exposure, interpreted as a signal to facilitate institutional investor entry into the market.
