According to blockchain media reports, if Strategy is removed from the index due to this move, it could face approximately $2.8 billion in forced selling pressure.

Strategy stated: “There is a misconception in the definition of digital asset holding companies (DATs). The 50% cap on digital asset holdings is discriminatory, and this restriction does not apply to companies focused on assets like oil or real estate.”

MSCI is currently discussing how to classify digital asset holding companies and is considering removing companies with over 50% Bitcoin holdings from the index. A leading investment bank analyst believes that if Strategy is delisted, it will face $2.8 billion in forced selling pressure. If other index providers adopt similar measures, this pressure could expand to $8-9 billion.

MSCI’s final decision will be made before December 31, during which market participants’ opinions will be collected. This is not just a simple index adjustment but an important precedent regarding the status of Bitcoin holding companies in the public market.
