On January 7, 2018, A Spanish inmate, Gonzalo Montoya Jiménez, was found slumped and unresponsive in his prison cell.
Two prison doctors examined him and declared him dead. A forensic doctor confirmed it and signed the death report. His body was sealed in a bag and sent to the morgue, where he spent hours in cold storage and was marked for autopsy. Moments before the procedure began, pathologists heard snoring from inside the bag. He was rushed to the hospital and woke up the next day, very much alive, and asked to see his wife. The incident is still unexplained to this day.
