It turns out that what I liked wasn't Jay Chou, but rather the Chinese style of Vincent Fang.
Jay Chou's new songs and music videos are all in a Western style. The grandeur is truly impressive, but it feels a bit uncomfortable to watch, even making me want to vomit.
Now I realize that what I’ve always liked wasn’t his Western musical style, but the Chinese elements written by Vincent Fang.
“Waiting for the misty rain in sky blue,” “East Wind Breaks,” “Hair Like Snow,” “Lanting Preface”…
That’s the true Jay Chou flavor—the artistic conception and charm are all in Vincent Fang’s lyrics.
Now only the glamorous Western exterior remains, and the most soulful parts are gone. It’s really a huge difference.
