Brazilian media: Brazil and South Africa seek to strengthen defense cooperation
Brazil’s President Lula said on the 9th, local time, in Brasília, that Brazil and South Africa should cooperate in the defense sector, warning that if they are not prepared, they are likely to be vulnerable to invasion. Brazil’s media outlet G1 said that Lula pointed to similarities between Brazil and South Africa. “South America defines itself as a peace zone: it has no nuclear weapons or atomic bombs, and drones are used in areas such as agriculture rather than war. So, we view defensive capabilities as deterrence.” Lula said this is something Brazil and South Africa both need, and that they should combine their respective potential to see what they can jointly produce or build, in order to reduce dependence on foreign arms merchants.
