Wow, Brazil has just extended the import tax exemption for mining equipment until 2028. Basically, the federal government is making it easier to bring in ASICs and mining machines into the country, at least until January 2028. The resolution was just released and signed by Vice President Alckmin.

The catch is that these machines need to have decent energy efficiency (less than 20 joules per terahash) and a capacity above 200 terahashes per second to qualify for the exemption. It sounds technical, but it basically means: only good and powerful machines.

But here’s the interesting part – Brazil is still practically invisible in global mining. We only have 0.375% of the worldwide hashrate. The US is dominating with 37.5%, Russia with 16.4%, and even China, which banned the activity, still accounts for 11.7%. In South America, Paraguay is leading with 4%.

In other words, the tax exemption is legal and all, but the real problem is the absurd energy costs here and the heat that forces more spending on cooling the machines. The exemption only solves half the problem, you know? I’m curious if this will actually attract more mining operations to Brazil or if it remains unappealing even with the benefit.
