Recently, I helped a few friends test verification code interfaces again and found that virtual number platforms are truly essential tools. Instead of spending money on new SIM cards, using a code reception platform saves money and protects privacy. I’ve encountered many pitfalls before—some platforms are painfully slow, and others don’t receive messages at all. I’ve summarized a few reliable ones and want to share them today.

Basically, virtual number platforms are services that rent temporary phone numbers to receive verification codes. After registering, select a country code, input it into the target website, and the verification code will appear directly in the backend—very simple. Unlike regular numbers, most charge per use, but there are also monthly or package options, depending on your needs.

The ones I use most are SMS-Activate and 5SIM, which offer the best overall experience. SMS-Activate is incredibly fast—usually within 10 seconds you get the code. It covers many countries, making it especially suitable for cross-border testing. 5SIM has a user-friendly interface and clear API documentation, so registering for Google, Twitter, and others is no problem. If your main testing is within China, options like XiaoNiao Receive Code and Super Cloud SMS are also good, with domestic number segments typically returning receipts in 5-20 seconds.

A few tips when using virtual number platforms: some numbers are shared, which can increase risk of being flagged; in such cases, switch to a different number. Some platforms support 'one-click number change,' which is very useful. For less common apps or during peak times, delays may occur, so it’s wise to prepare several numbers for emergencies. Also, don’t just go for the cheapest platform—choose ones with good reputation and high activity for more stability.

Honestly, if you’re just doing short-term testing, any platform supporting API integration will do. But if you need stable registration on an overseas site, it’s best to buy multiple numbers at once so you can switch quickly if one becomes invalid. Overall, using virtual number platforms wisely can save a lot of trouble—key is to pick the right platform.
