Recently, I've been experimenting with various account verification methods and found that choosing the right SMS platform can really save a lot of trouble. I've run into many pitfalls before—some platforms simply don't receive messages, others have ridiculous delays—and only after some trial and error did I figure out which ones are reliable.

Honestly, sometimes you just need a temporary phone number to register for overseas websites or test APIs. Buying a new SIM card isn't practical, so virtual numbers for receiving SMS become the easiest solution. These SMS platforms are basically services that rent virtual numbers, covering multiple countries and regions. After registering, you select the country code, and the verification code appears directly in the backend. They charge per use or offer monthly plans.

Among the platforms I've used, SMS-Activate and 5SIM are the most stable. Verification codes usually arrive within 10 seconds, and they cover all major countries. Super Cloud SMS's US numbers are also good, arriving in 10-30 seconds. Chinese numbers are even faster, typically 5-20 seconds. Bird Code is suitable for domestic app testing, with codes arriving in about 5-15 seconds and good cost performance. Getsmscode is cheap, but since it's a less popular platform, delays can occur.

Here are some tips for using these platforms: shared numbers are often previously registered, so sometimes you'll get flagged as risky numbers; verification messages may be delayed, especially for less common countries or apps; it's advisable to have multiple numbers ready so you can switch quickly if one becomes invalid. Some platforms support one-click number switching, which is really handy.

If you're just doing temporary API testing, any platform that supports API access will do. But if you need stable registration for a specific overseas site, it's better to prepare in advance. Also, don't rely on virtual numbers as your primary number long-term—privacy and security can't be guaranteed. Overall, choosing the right SMS platform makes these tasks much simpler.
