According to Axios on April 6, four sources familiar with the negotiations from the U.S., Israel, and regional parties revealed that the United States, Iran, and a group of regional mediators are discussing terms for a potential 45-day ceasefire agreement, which could ultimately end the war. The sources said that the likelihood of reaching a partial agreement within the next 48 hours is low, but this final effort is the only chance to prevent the war from escalating sharply. The 10-day deadline set by President Trump for Iran was originally due to expire on Monday evening. However, Trump extended the deadline by 20 hours on Sunday and posted a new cutoff time on his social media platform "Truth Social": Tuesday at 8 p.m. Eastern Time. On Sunday, Trump told Axios that the U.S. is engaged in "intensive negotiations" with Iran and that an agreement could be reached before his final deadline on Tuesday.
