【OpenAI】OpenAI Products and Business Chair Fidji Simo takes a few weeks off due to illness; COO steps in to oversee "Special Projects"

OpenAI announces personnel changes. In a memo to employees, Fidji Simo, Chair of Product and Business, said that over the past month her health has been particularly bad, affected by the worsening of a neuro-immune disorder, and she has decided to take a few weeks off, hoping it will help her recover.

“During my time in this role, I kept putting off medical checkups and new therapies, just so I could fully focus on my work and not miss any day. But two weeks before my leave, I took time off for the first time to undergo some medical checkups. Now it’s very clear that I really pushed myself too far. I truly need to try new treatment options to stabilize my health.”

Fidji Simo previously held multiple leadership roles at Meta (US: META), working there for more than 10 years.

During Fidji Simo’s time off, OpenAI CEO Greg Brockman will be responsible for overseeing product and business, while COO Brad Lightcap will move into a new position focused on “special projects,” and report directly to CEO Sam Altman.
