Who has the authority to define the "disappearance" of a civilization?
BlockBeats latest news, April 7: Trump posted on social media, saying:
"Tonight, the entire civilization will perish, and will never be reborn again. I don't want this to happen, but it very well might. However, since we now have a complete and total change of regime, and let more wise, more rational, and less radical ideas take the lead, perhaps something wonderful will happen as a result of some kind of transformation—who knows? Tonight we will find out the answer; it is one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the world. After 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, it is finally coming to an end. God bless the great Iranian people."
Seeing this news, I only feel it is absurd and sends chills down the spine. A leader of a great power uses "the disappearance of a civilization" as a bargaining chip at the drop of a hat, and types out a historical verdict on social media.
Civilization is not a sandbox: This land of Iran carries thousands of years of accumulated civilization—no one can just tap a finger on Twitter and make it "perish tonight." Is this savior-like arrogance truly progress for civilization, or a return to barbarism?
So-called "regime change": The official decree is written in lofty terms—"wise, rational, and not radical"—but history has long proven that with every imposed "surgical-style" transformation, it is civilians' blood that is spilled, while it is the pockets of the military-industrial complex that get fatter.
The end of 47 years? Don't forget: the cycle of antagonism itself is a distorted byproduct of great-power games.
With slogans roaring through the air, who exactly is it that God blesses—"the people," or the oil and gold written on the bills? After tonight, the world may still be the same world, but the bottom line of some people has sunk one notch lower.
