According to the latest news on April 8, 2026, the situation between the United States and Iran has taken a major turn from “intense clashes first, then shifting to diplomatic negotiations.” The following are the key developments:
⚔️ 1. The US and Israel Launch a Large-Scale Military Strike
Before the “deadline” set by Trump, the US-Israel coalition launched a large-scale attack on Iran:
· Targets: More than 50 military targets inside Iran, as well as infrastructure such as roads and railway bridges.
· Response: The Iranian Revolutionary Guard warned that it would carry out even more severe retaliation, and has claimed that it struck Israeli and US military facilities in the region.
🤝 2. Sudden Diplomatic Turn: Accepting a Ceasefire and Agreeing to Talks
Despite fierce fighting, the two sides reached a diplomatic agreement at the last moment through Pakistani mediation:
· Ceasefire talks: Iran announced that it accepted Pakistan’s proposal. Both sides agreed to a two-week ceasefire starting immediately, and talks are scheduled to begin in Islamabad on April 10.
· Preconditions: Trump agreed to temporarily delay military operations, provided that Iran must open the Strait of Hormuz.
📝 3. The Positions of Both Sides and the Basis for the Agreement
· US position: Vice President Vance said that military objectives had essentially been achieved and that it had received Iran’s “Ten-Point Proposal,” which he believes can serve as a basis for negotiations.
· Iran’s position: Although Iran agreed to hold talks, it emphasized a “complete lack of trust” in the US. The Supreme National Security Council made it clear that negotiations do not mean the fighting has ended, but rather the continuation of struggles on the battlefield.
Of note is that, earlier, some media reported that Iran had stopped its efforts to negotiate, but the latest official statement confirmed that negotiations will proceed. At present, both sides have entered a delicate phase of “fighting while talking.”
