Recently, I’ve been experimenting with account verification, and I’ve found that virtual phone numbers are really useful. Previously, to test interfaces and register on overseas websites, buying new SIM cards was too troublesome, and using my own number risked privacy leaks. That’s when I discovered SMS verification platforms. Basically, you rent a virtual phone number to receive SMS verification codes—convenient and secure.

However, I’ve also encountered some pitfalls. Some platforms take half a day to receive messages, and others have ridiculous delays. After some trial and error, I’ve summarized a few relatively stable platforms to share with everyone. SMS-Activate and 5SIM are the most reliable I’ve used; verification codes usually arrive within 10 seconds, and they cover many countries. Super Cloud SMS has good support for US and Chinese number segments. US numbers typically get a reply within 30 seconds, and Chinese numbers are even faster. Bird SMS is especially suitable for testing domestic apps, with codes arriving in 5-15 seconds. Getsmscode is inexpensive and good for light users.

When using virtual phone numbers, there are a few pitfalls to avoid: some numbers are shared and can be used by others; verification messages may be delayed, especially for less common countries; don’t just pick platforms based on price without considering reliability. Most importantly, these virtual numbers are only suitable for temporary use. Don’t rely on them as your main number long-term—privacy and security are not guaranteed. My experience is that if you’re just testing interfaces, any platform supporting API access will do; but if you need stable registration on a specific site, it’s best to prepare several virtual numbers as backups so you can switch immediately if one becomes invalid. Some platforms even support one-click number switching, which is very practical. Lastly, a reminder: these verification platforms are mainly for privacy protection and account testing. Never use them for illegal activities.
