Recently, I needed to register some overseas accounts for testing, and I found that the SMS verification platform is actually quite useful. Instead of buying new SIM cards, it's easier to use virtual numbers to temporarily receive verification codes.

After trying out quite a few platforms and learning from pitfalls, I’ve summarized five that are pretty good to share. SMS-Activate delivers verification codes within about 10 seconds most of the time, with full country coverage, making it especially suitable for cross-border testing. Super Cloud SMS’s US number segments are also quite fast, and Chinese number segments respond even faster, though they can be slow during peak hours. 5SIM has a nice interface design, clear API documentation, and both Google and Twitter can be received normally. Xiaoniao Verification supports domestic applications quite well, with responses typically within 5-15 seconds, offering good value. Getsmscode is cheap, but since it’s a less popular platform, delays are more common.

There are a few things to watch out for when using SMS verification platforms. Shared number segments can be used by others, and verification codes for less common countries or apps might not be received. My experience is to prepare several numbers so you can switch quickly if one becomes invalid. Some platforms even support one-click number switching, which is very convenient. Don’t go for the cheapest small platforms; reputation and activity level are very important. Also, these services are only suitable for temporary use. Don’t expect to use them as your long-term main number, as privacy and security are not guaranteed.

If you’re just testing interfaces, just pick any API-supported platform. But if you want stable registration on a specific website, you need to put in more effort. Based on my experience, SMS-Activate and 5SIM perform the most stably, with low latency and wide country coverage, so I highly recommend them.
