X launches official MCP server, allowing AI Agents to read and write tweets natively

Chris Park, head of the X Developer Platform, announced four upgrades to the X API:
1. The pay-per-use model is officially launched worldwide, replacing the previous fixed monthly subscription plans
2. Introduced XMCP Server and command-line tool xurl, enabling AI Agents to directly call over 150 X API endpoints via the MCP protocol
3. Released official Python and TypeScript SDKs (XDK), automatically generated from OpenAPI specifications based on Rust
4. Launched API Playground, providing a free simulation testing environment
The XMCP Server is built on FastMCP, which automatically loads the OpenAPI specifications of X API at startup and converts them into MCP tool definitions. AI Agents can read tweets, post, query user profiles, and more without manual encapsulation.
xurl is a curl-like CLI tool written in Go, with built-in OAuth authentication and streaming support, also designed for agent scenarios.
The pay-per-use model was softly launched in February this year, costing about $0.005 per tweet read and $0.01 per post.
This upgrade makes it officially available worldwide and includes the xAI points rebate plan: monthly spending over $200 can earn a 10%-20% Grok API points rebate.
Elon Musk reposted the announcement, recommending developers to use the X API.
