According to CNN, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. Navy will begin blockading the Strait of Hormuz after peace negotiations with Tehran broke down this weekend. He stated that two U.S. Navy destroyers passed through the strait yesterday. Other countries, including the United Kingdom, will send mine-clearing ships to assist the U.S. in removing Iranian remnants of ammunition left in the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump said that the U.S.-Iran negotiations held in Pakistan were "very friendly," and that the U.S. "almost got everything we wanted" during the talks. However, he also pointed out that the peace efforts ultimately stalled because Iran failed to commit to abandoning its nuclear program.
