I just noticed something quite interesting in the Solana community recently. What does "Backpack" mean that it's so hot? Actually, it's not just an ordinary wallet.
Backpack is a blockchain wallet designed quite intelligently for the Solana ecosystem. It allows users to store, send, and receive tokens and NFTs, but the cool part is that it also supports minting xNFTs — a type of executable NFT, not just static NFTs like usual. Additionally, this wallet integrates messaging, cold wallet connection, and even allows buying crypto with fiat currency.
What makes Backpack special? It functions like an "operating system" for decentralized applications. Instead of jumping between different platforms, users just need to go to Backpack's xNFT Library, download dApps, and use them immediately. For example, staking DeGods NFTs directly within the wallet without any third-party intermediaries.
I also noticed that Backpack launched a centralized exchange (CEX) in early 2024. That month, it recorded over $1 billion in trading volume within the first five days — a pretty impressive figure. The exchange supports spot trading with Limit and Market orders, a 0.1% fee, and operates in the Middle East, Asia, and some US states.
Regarding the product, Backpack Wallet is non-custodial, similar to Phantom or Metamask, helping users manage their assets independently. Features include: storing tokens/NFTs on Solana and Ethereum, quick token swaps, direct NFT minting, community messaging, and access to the xNFT Library with low transaction fees.
The development team behind Backpack is Coral — a crypto infrastructure company. Founders Armani Ferrante and Tristan Yver raised $37 million from major funds like Jump Crypto, Multicoin Capital, Placeholder, Amber Group. This team also created the NFT collection Mad Lads, so they know how to build products for the community.
What’s interesting is that the meaning of "backpack" actually reflects the team’s mindset — a backpack containing everything you need to explore Web3. From wallets, exchanges, to xNFT applications, all integrated into one platform. Currently supporting Solana and Ethereum, with plans to expand to other blockchains.
Although it doesn’t have its own token yet, users of this wallet and exchange have the chance to receive airdrops from future projects. Ultimately, what does "Backpack" mean? It’s a significant step toward creating a complete ecosystem for Solana users — where all necessary tools are available without having to hop across multiple exchanges.
