El Salvador President Bukele said Bitcoin purchases will continue despite IMF pressure. El Salvador President Nayib Bukele announced that his government will continue to accumulate Bitcoin despite the International Monetary Fund (IMF) calling for a halt to Bitcoin purchases. Bukele stated in a statement on March 4 that they will not comply with the IMF’s request, using the expressions “We are not stopping and we will not stop.” The IMF had requested on March 3 that El Salvador’s public sector stop accumulating Bitcoin and stop mining Bitcoin as part of a $1.4 billion loan agreement. However, El Salvador continues its strategy of purchasing at least one Bitcoin per day. The country has increased its Bitcoin reserves, currently reaching 6,101 BTC, accumulating an asset of approximately $534.5 million.
