Kennedy, former Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. On November 22, 1963, John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States, was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. His younger brother, Robert F. Kennedy, former US Attorney General, ran for president in 1968 and was assassinated in Los Angeles, California, early in the morning of June 5 of the same year. On April 4, 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee.
