There is no official confirmation from the Pi Network Core team that the coin burning program has intentionally started for PI coins as of today, March 18, 2025. However, there are mechanisms and events related to the Pi network that have led to speculations and discussions about coin burning, especially about reducing the total supply.
In the Pi Network system, coins can be removed from circulation in several ways that may be interpreted as "burning". For example, transaction fees are collected on the Pi blockchain, which is based on the Stellar protocol, and removed from circulation, effectively burned to manage inflation. Posts in X from early March 2025 indicate that about 528,671 PI have been burned in this way so far, with an estimated burn of 3,000–4,000 PI daily. This is not a "new" beginning of burning but a continuous feature in the network design since the mainnet launch.
