Next time you chat with AI, I hope it can remember everything you said

Recently, I’ve been chatting with friends, and the topic always revolves around AI. From large models that can write poetry and draw pictures, to increasingly intelligent voice assistants, everyone is lamenting how fast technology is advancing. But honestly, most AI I encounter still feel like talking to someone knowledgeable but “without a past”—it remembers rules but not you; it can respond but rarely resonates.

This reminds me of a game I played before, where NPC lines always looped the same few phrases. I thought, if they could remember the last time I visited, remember my choices, or even sense that I was feeling down today, that would be so interesting. Unexpectedly, this seemingly distant expectation is quietly being realized by some projects. For example, recently I noticed Ephyra, which doesn’t stop at making AI “respond fluently,” but tries to inject memory and emotional dimensions into virtual characters.

Speaking of which, this direction also coincides with a certain current need: AI-generated content is becoming richer, but the depth of our interaction with it seems to have hit a bottleneck. People are beginning to crave more sustained, warmer digital companionship—a partner that can remember your preferences, perceive your emotions, and gradually “get to know” you over time. And what Ephyra is trying to do seems to be making such companionship possible.

Of course, all this is still evolving. But when I see it building shared character memories through the community, and even allowing users to participate in training through conversations, I feel a sense of long-missed engagement. This is no longer just using a tool, but like co-creating a new form of digital existence.

Perhaps in the not-too-distant future, when we look back at the AI boom, we will find that what truly moves people isn’t just technical parameters, but those digital lives with “memory” and understanding “emotion.” They make the virtual world less cold, and each interaction more meaningful and unique.
