21Shares Co-Founder: Tokenization Lags Wall Street's Preparedness

According to CoinDesk, Ophelia Snyder of 21Shares said on June 23 that while tokenization can address settlement and asset liquidity challenges, integrating blockchain assets with existing systems at banks, brokerages, and asset managers remains the primary hurdle. Financial institutions lack adequate software adaptations for blockchain-native transactions, particularly in accounting, compliance, and risk management functions. Snyder emphasized that scale, not functionality, is the industry's bottleneck—most tokenization projects are viable at small volumes but cannot handle U.S. capital market transaction sizes without significant regulatory and control frameworks.
