On Saturday, according to his X post, Sam Altman accused Elon Musk of using unproven claims about space data centers to attract public market investors. Altman's remarks targeted SpaceX's AI1 satellite program, which combines SpaceX and xAI to build orbital compute nodes. He previously stated on the TBPN podcast in February that space-based compute would not provide OpenAI meaningful capacity within 10 years.
Musk countered by pointing to Altman's legal troubles, amid an ongoing lawsuit by Apple against OpenAI alleging trade secret theft. SpaceX stock (SPCX) closed at $145.30 on Friday, down roughly 36% from its post-IPO high of $225.64 reached in mid-June, trading near its 52-week low.
