Claude Opus 5 Outscores Fable 5 on Most Benchmarks, Priced at Half the Cost

Claude Opus 5 launched July 24 at $5 per million input tokens—half the price of Fable 5 and equal to its predecessor Opus 4.8—while outperforming Fable 5 on major benchmarks. The model is now the default for Claude Max and strongest on Claude Pro, effectively replacing Fable 5 as the primary option for most subscribers.

On Frontier-Bench v0.1, a coding task evaluation, Opus 5 scored 43.3% versus Fable 5's 33.7%. On ARC-AGI-3, a novel problem-solving benchmark, Opus 5 reached 30.2% against GPT-5.6 Sol's 7.8%. On GDPval-AA v2, a professional knowledge work benchmark, Opus 5 achieved 1,861 on Elo ratings versus Fable 5's 1,747.
